BEIJING: Global beverage giant The Coca-Cola Company said on Feb. 28, 2008 that it jumped into the Chinese pure fruit juice market at the end of 2007, aiming to take a slice of the cake that is currently 46 percent held by Beijing Huiyuan Beverage and Food Group Co., Ltd.
Coca-Cola's pure fruit juice products, priced at around CNY 10 apiece, have hit the shelves in several places of the country. However, the company only launched small-scale promotions in stores so far, said industry insiders.
Moreover, another beverage giant PepsiCo, Inc. has been selling products under its largest fruit juice brand in the Chinese market. However, it only supplies low-concentrated fruit juice drinks in the nation now. Industry insiders believed that PepsiCo would tap into the Chinese pure fruit juice market sooner or latter.
The participants of global giants are estimated to heat the long-cooled competition in the Chinese pure fruit juice market, said industry insiders. To prepare for the challenge, Huiyuan expanded its production capacity significantly in the past 2007.
