My Coke Rewards, a program run by Coca-Cola designed to offer rewards to the company's consumers, has more than doubled its membership in the past year.
With 8.7 million users, My Coke Rewards has become the second most popular consumer packaged goods website on the Internet, according to Internet information provider ComScore. Those members have entered nearly 2 billion codes and claimed more than 4.7 million rewards in the two years since the program started in February 2006. Every day, more than 285,000 people visit mycokerewards.com, and according to ComScore, the site sees more visitors every month than any other non-alcohol beverage brand website.
"Our membership continues to grow because My Coke Rewards offers people an incredible diversity of rewards and experiences. With options related to entertainment, electronics, music, family, fashion/beauty, gaming, sports, travel and more. There really is something for everyone," says Bill Kelly, senior vice president for Coca-Cola North America.
In order to participate in My Coke Rewards, customers must buy Coke products that contain codes under their bottle caps or inside their packaging. Once customers obtain the codes, they can go to mycokerewards.com to create an account so that they can enter the codes they've received. The codes allow the customers to redeem prizes such as free movie rentals and music downloads.
"People join My Coke Rewards because they like the idea of being rewarded for something they do every day—enjoying ice cold Coca-Cola and our other refreshing beverages," says Michael La Kier, director of My Coke Rewards for Coca-Cola North America. "We are constantly enhancing and expanding our selection of rewards and experiences to offer people an unmatched experience they know they can't find elsewhere."
In 2008, My Coke Rewards hopes to add rewards tied to major television shows and sporting events, such as American Idol and the Olympic Games, in hopes of allowing its customers to experience prizes tied to today's biggest events.
