SINGAPORE: Asia Pacific Breweries Ltd, the Singapore-based maker of Tiger Beer, said Wednesday it has expanded the capacity of its unit Hatay Brewery Ltd in North Vietnam by more than 50 percent, to 460,000 hectolitres or 46 million liters.
Hatay Brewery's expansion cost the company 1 million US dollars in investments, APB said. The plant currently brews Tiger Beer, Heineken, Anchor and Bivina.
APB has five breweries in Vietnam with total capacity of over 4 million hectoliters or 400 million liters.
Vietnam is a key market in APB's Indochina operations which include a newly-opened plant in Laos and another plant in Cambodia.
"The expansion is timely as volumes have increased from year to year, being bolstered by a robust economy and the rising affluence of the Vietnamese," said Chris Kidd, regional director for Indochina at APB.
Asia Pacific Breweries is jointly owned by Dutch brewer Heineken NV and Singapore-based conglomerate Fraser & Neave.
