Heineken to Acquire Romanian Brewer Bere Mures
Friday, 07 March 2008
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands: Heineken NV said Friday it has agreed to buy Romanian brewer Bere Mures, without disclosing financial terms.

Bere Mures has about 400 employees and sold 1.2 million hectoliters of beer in 2007, Heineken said, including "Neumarkt," one of the country's most popular beers, and the smaller "Dracula" brand.

Heineken is already the largest seller of beer in Romania, and the deal must be approved by regulators, the company said in a statement.

If successful, the buy would increase Heineken's market share from 26 percent to 31 percent of the Romanian market.

Heineken forecast the acquisition would begin adding to earnings in 2009.
