Imperial India Pale Ale Turns 20
Wednesday, 30 January 2008
Anderson Valley Brewing Co., an award-winning beer maker located in Boonville, Calif., will release its 20th anniversary Imperial India Pale Ale (IPA) at a celebration marking the company’s 20th year on Feb. 2.

Anderson Valley Brewing Co.The company produces 25,000 barrels of beer a year, but is making its first foray into the world of Imperial IPAs with this venture. Because the beer primarily exists to commemorate the company's 20th year, it will be released as a limited edition brew. It will be available in small batches, mostly in California and possibly throughout some parts of Arizona, the brewery says.

"We did it mostly in celebration of brewing award-winning beer for 20 years," says Lisa Gillespie, Anderson Valley's sales and marketing coordinator. "We’re just going to see how it is accepted, and then we may step up the batches and release it more widely."

For now, the company will be releasing 200 barrels of the beer, created by head brewer Neil Atkins. It contains excessive amounts of malts and 20 separate additions of Pacific Northwest hops, and has 8.7 percent alcohol by volume. It comes in bottles and cases with a colorful sunrise label.

The celebration itself will begin at 2 p.m. with tours of the grounds, carriage rides and disc golf. It will continue with hors d’oeuvres and beer tasting at 4 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. with entrees such as prime rib and eggplant parmesan and a dessert of double chocolate cake. Admission is $65 per person.
