ImageThe compelling superfruit strikes again, this time as a wine. Aiko Importers, Inc. presents Tree of Life Pomegranate Wine, a wine made from 100 percent pure squeezed pomegranate juice.

With health benefits and a complex tart and fruity taste, the pomegranate wine was developed specifically for US consumers.

"Today's consumer has a discerning palate and is more health conscious than ever before. We developed Tree of Life specifically for US consumers, taking into account their taste preferences and consumption habits at home and in restaurants," says Alex Kogan, vice president of Aiko Importers, Inc.

Tree of Life is available as semi-sweet or semi-dry. The semi-sweet wine is 12 percent alcohol by volume and is made using a traditional technique that preserves its fruity taste. The soft wine is intended to be chilled on its own or to accompany cheeses, Indian and chicken dishes, and chocolate.

The semi-dry wine is 11 percent by volume and is distinguished by its red color and nice lingering finish. The light bodied wine pairs well with grilled meats, chicken or pasta dishes, strong cheeses and Mediterranean cuisine.

"The use of pomegranate in consumer products is a growing trend due to the fruit’s enormous health benefits. The trend has already begun to trickle down to the wine category, as there are a few red wines on the market that are infused with pomegranate flavor," says Kogan.

While the taste of pomegranate is relatively new to North America, throughout history it has played a key role in other cultures for centuries. The crimson fruit originates from Iran and northern India but has been grown throughout the Mediterranean region. Pomegranate has symbolized fertility, royalty, hope and abundance throughout history. Some ancient cultures believed pomegranate to hold mystical healing properties.
Pomegranate contains polyphenols, which have anti-viral, anti-tumor and potent antioxidant properties. Pomegranate is considered the No. 1 antioxidant in the modern diet. With protection against cancers and cardiovascular diseases, antioxidants are said to be the main contributing source to longevity of human life. Pomegranate wine has two to three times more antioxidants than red wine.

Research shows that pomegranate may help to slow down prostate and breast caners in addition to guarding strokes, premature aging and Alzheimer’s. Pomegranate also may assist in maintaining healthy cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Researchers are studying the possibility of developing a virucide from pomegranates as a protective anti-viral agent against HIV.

Kogan feels Tree of Life has something for every type of consumer, whether they’re concerned with health benefits or taste.

"It primarily appeals to women because of the wine's "fruitiness" as well as its health benefits.  It appeals to men who may be open to refining their taste palates and/or might be open to this wine due to the health benefits. Seniors will be drawn to Tree of Life due to the reported benefits of pomegranate fruit/juice including playing a role in osteoarthritis and prostate health, guarding against Alzheimer’s, longevity," says Kogan.

Tree of Life is Aiko’s best-selling wine brand. The company’s distribution network consists of 42 partners located in 32 US states.
