Capt'n Eli is not just a soda, it's an adventure.
Capt'n Eli Soda bills itself as the only soda in the world with its own action-packed comic: "The Undersea Adventures of Capt'n Eli." The origin of the idea for these undersea adventures comes from the soda's namesake, Eli.
"The comic book and soda both tap into a nostalgic feel and support one another, similar to the old days of radio advertising when an adventure character had a product is a tie-in, the association of Captain Midnight with Ovaltine, for example," says Kennedy.
Shipyard Brewing Company is currently working with a distributor on a 200 page graphic novel titled "The Mystery of the Sargasso Sea."
The stories revitalize the essence of the daily adventure comic strip by updating classic themes for a new audience.
"The Undersea Adventures of Capt'n Eli stories bring back the feeling of childhood adventure when comics were a dime, you could buy root beer floats at the neighborhood drug store, and your imagination could propel you anywhere," says Kennedy.
The website averages more than 7,000 page views and 57,000 hits per month. The company has an e-mail database of 300+ people around the United States ranging in age from 3 to 81. This database is evenly split between males and females. Fans can subscribe to the daily comic, or visit the archives of Capt'n Eli webisodes. The comic book and soda are both available online at captneli.com.
Recently Capt'n Eli's Soda introduced Lemon Lime, Strawberry Pop and Orange Pop to its line of handcrafted sodas. Capt'n Eli's Soda is sweetened with real cane and brown sugar and is caffeine free. The three new flavors join Capt'n Eli's lineup of Root Beer, Ginger Beer, Parrot Punch and Blueberry Pop.
"We felt that these three flavors would complement the portfolio of our soda line. Lemon Lime offers a light refreshing taste, Strawberry Pop is a fresh fruit flavor, and Orange Pop adds to our line of old fashioned flavors like Root Beer and Ginger Beer," says Director of Communication Tami Kennedy.
Orange Pop, along with Blueberry Pop will join the flagship Root Beer and spicy-sweet Ginger Beer in being available in 4-packs in addition to single 12-ounce bottles.
Lemon Lime and Strawberry Pop are exclusively available in single, 12-ounce glass bottles. |
