SIG Plasmax
ImageSIG Plasmax’s (Hamburg, Germany) Plasmax system now enables PET bottles to be coated with an optimized barrier, enabling sensitive beverages like beer and fruit juices to be packaged in clear plastic bottles without affecting product quality. In the new process, the interior of the PET bottle is coated with an extremely thin, highly transparent and flexible layer of glass (SiOx), retaining the crystal-clear appearance of a PET bottle. The layer, the company says, guards against CO2 and O2 permeation. Berlin, Germany-based Brewery Testing and Training Institute already has tested the product and found that the Plasmax coating enables breweries to fulfill all the requirements they have with respect to the quality of their packaging and protection of their products. Meanwhile, SIG Corpoplast promoted its Blomax Series III stretch blow molding machines, promising precise repeatability in high-speed production—1,800 bottles/cavity/hour—with the highest uptime and lowest material, energy and maintenance costs. sigplasmax.com• sigcorpoplast.com
