Shipyard Brewing Company 's Export Ale was named  "Best of Show " and was awarded a Gold Medal for English Ales at the 2007 San Diego County Fair 's Commercial Beer Competition on Saturday, June 9. Shipyard's Export Ale competed with just under 300 beers in the compeition.

Export Ale is the flagship beer of the Shipyard Brewing Company, based in Portland, Maine. It's a full-bodied ale with a hint of sweetness upfront and a clean finish. The old Canadian-style ale is 5.1 percent alcohol by volume. This month, Export Ale celebrates its 15th anniversary.

"It is a great honor to be recognized by this festival.  Our beer is currently distributed in 35 states and we see California as one of the key emerging markets for our products.  It is truly rewarding to us to have our beer recognized as award-winning in a festival with such a sophisticated beer palate," says Director of Communication Tami Kennedy.

The Shipyard Brewing Company was founded by Alan Pugsley and  Fred Forsley. All of their beer is brewed in Portland and hand crafted from recipes developed Alan Pugsley. Shipyard is currently Maine's largest brewery, producing 13 varieties of award-winning English style and seasonal ales.
