From the same folks that bring Lindemans lambics, Belgian Trappist brews Orval, Westmalle and Rochefort and British brew Samuel Smith to thirsty Americans, now comes a traditional Czech lager never before available in the United States. Zatec Bright Lager, brewed at the Zatec Brewery outside Prague and imported by Merchant du Vin, can now be found in bars, stores and restaurants nationwide. Made from Czech two-row barley and local hops, Zatec is produced via a traditional, labor-intensive means using a double-decoction mash, open primary fermentation and 45 days of lagering before packaging. For beer consumers that translates into a medium-bodied, thirst-quenching brew with a hint of spice.
