This month, Louis Glunz Beer, Inc. introduces Temperance Beer Co., the first craft brewery of Evanston, IL. With selections including Restless Years pale ale, Gatecrasher English IPA, and Root Down robust porter, Temperance Beer Co. made its official debut at the public release party on November 19, 2013, at The Green Lady in Chicago, which featured a meet and greet with the Temperance team and the exclusive first tapping of Smittytown Tart.
“While we specialize in finding the best handcrafted beers from all around the globe, we love the opportunity to introduce the latest local beers to Chicagoans,” says Anthony Norkus, craft and specialty import brands manager for Glunz. “Not only is Temperance the first craft brewery in Evanston, but it’s also the first Chicago-area production brewery with a woman in the role of head brewer, or brewster.”
Current Temperance offerings from Glunz include:
National Anthem (wheat ale with blueberries, 4.5% ABV)—A hint of summer remains in Chicago all year long with this all-American ale. Before kegging, this beer made from red and white wheat spends time soaking with Michigan blueberries.
Smittytown (ESB, 4.8% ABV)—Refined English malts with the addition of brazen American hops, such as Zythos, make up this extra special bitter.
Restless Years (rye pale ale, 5.8% ABV)—This crisp “RyePA” gets its spice from rye in the mash. Dry-hopping with Green Bullet and Chinook lends a tropical aroma.
Root Down (robust porter, 5.2% ABV)—Brewed with chicory and licorice and accented with a touch of smoked malt, this smooth robust porter reinterprets its roots.
Gatecrasher (English IPA, 6.6% ABV)—The hop combination of Chinook, Falconer’s Flight, and Zythos make this flavorful IPA flavor-forward.
“It’s been a great journey from the start of my professional brewing career to where I am now,” Temperance brew master Claudia Jendron says. “It all starts with someone giving you a chance, and then someone else believing in you to make it all work. That’s how I feel working with Glunz: They’re an extension of our team who are taking what we’re passionate about to the masses.”
