Paul Hobbs Becomes Exclusive Alto Limay Importer

Alto Limay, dedicated to the production of Pinot Noir from Patagonia, Argentina, has appointed Paul Hobbs Imports as its United States importer. Since 2008, Paul Hobbs has been working with the producers of Alto Limay as consulting winemaker in an effort to explore this frontier geographical area and its synergy with the Pinot Noir varietal.

"The proliferation of Pinot Noir from Patagonia will be a key component in the future of Argentina's wine industry," says Paul Hobbs Imports General Manager Serge Lozach. "Due to the region's strong dry winds, intense winters and cool nights during the summer, fruit often ripens slowly and has a unique expression. This combined with value-friendly pricing makes Alto Limay an exciting prospect."

Named after the neighboring Limay River in Neuquén, Alto Limay draws snowmelt from the Andes Mountains to water the vineyards in this geographically semi-desert area. Sandy, rocky soils are situated on a foundation of limestone, resulting in thick skinned Pinot Noir with an aromatic depth of red berry fruit and earthy tones to complement silky tannins.

2012 Alto Limay Select Pinot Noir (SRP $20) is currently available in the US market, while the small lot produced 2013 Alto Limay Joven Pinot Noir (SRP $16) will be available starting in January 2014.
