As part of its national bottler meeting here, PepsiCo Americas Beverages (PAB), a business sector of PepsiCo, named Pepsi-Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers of Ogdensburg, N.Y., as its Donald M. Kendall Bottler of the Year for 2011.
Named for PepsiCo’s co-founder and former chairman and chief executive officer, the Donald M. Kendall Bottler of the Year Award was created in 1994 to honor the best of the best among Pepsi-Cola bottlers in the United States and Canada. Pepsi Ogdensburg was one of three finalists recognized for outstanding volume and per capita growth, retail and foodservice execution, customer service, quality standards, performance against PAB’s strategic imperatives and, importantly, community support. Since PepsiCo’s reentry into the North American bottling business in 2010, this award has been dedicated exclusively to PAB’s independent bottling partners.
Pepsi Ogdensburg CEO Bonita “Bonnie” Wright and vice president of sales and general manager Richard Wright (wife and husband) accepted the award from Kendall, PAB CEO Al Carey and Mario Mercurio, SVP/GM of PAB’s Franchise Business Unit. “No greater honor is bestowed within the Pepsi-Cola bottling system,” Mercurio said. “To be named a finalist recognizes street-smart executional excellence and impeccable local values at their absolute finest. In a challenging business environment, the Wright family and its team have risen above the competition with exceptional passion, commitment and capability to lead, partner and win as one Pepsi.”
Wright, daughter of the bottling company’s founder Dick Winter, said, “I’m so proud to be a Pepsi bottler. This is a great honor for the Pepsi Ogdensburg family. In addition to the blessing of seeing my father’s dreams now reflected in our son Scott’s eyes, this business has given us the incredibly fulfilling opportunity to help others within our community. Family, business and community are the most important things to me – I hope we’ve done it right.”
Pepsi Ogdensburg, located in northern New York’s St. Lawrence County, was founded in 1942 by the Winter family and now is owned and operated by the Wright family. “The company’s success is marked by best-in-class merchandising, peerless customer service and tireless support for Pepsi’s brands and innovations,” PAB’s Mercurio added. “Driven by a long-term commitment to strong personal relationships, Pepsi Ogdensburg’s role as a community cornerstone is unquestioned by its customers and consumers.”
PAB presents each Donald M. Kendall Bottler of the Year finalist with a $5,000 community grant in recognition of their ongoing commitment to their communities. Pepsi Ogdensburg is giving its grant to the Ogdensburg Boys & Girls Club, which, since 1964, has worked to ensure and enhance the quality of life for the youngsters in its community. Its services include educational, recreational, arts and technological programs while providing a “home away from home” for area youth.
Two other outstanding Pepsi bottlers, the Bernick Companies of Dresser, Wis., and Pepsi Bottling Ventures of Raleigh, N.C., were honored as finalists for the Donald M. Kendall Bottler of the Year Award.
